Joel and his daughter continue to flee, and are confronted by a soldier who orders them to shoot them. When the soldier was about to kill Joel, Tommy shot the soldier in the head. Joel survived the attack with minor injuries, but Sarah was mortally wounded and died in her father Joel's arms.
